Inspiration to Go Barefoot in February

What is it about Ina Garten that makes her so popular? Whether she’s hosting her show on the Food Network, answering readers’ questions in House BeautifulMagazine, selling Barefoot Contessa brand products through Stonewall Kitchen, or penning yet another cookbook (five to date) this chef has her finger in a lot of pies!

The wonderful thing about Ina is her story, which can provide any aspiring culinary professional fodder for many a daydream. According to her web site , before becoming the Contessa, Garten worked in the White House Office of Management and Budget. Ready for a career change, she made an offer on the specialty food shop in the Hamptons that would later lead to her culinary fame. After 18 years as a store owner, this culinary powerhouse was ready for another professional shift and sold the store to dedicate herself to cookbook writing. As any Google search for “Ina Garten” or “Barefoot Contessa” will indicate, the rest is history.

What can we learn from Garten? In addition to borrowing some great recipes, Garten’s unconventional path to stardom reminds us that sometimes a dream combined with lots of hard work is the perfect recipe for success.
